Large-Scale Events on the Occasion of Europe Day

Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova

Large-Scale Events · Event Management · Creative Concept · Strategic Communications · Partner Engagement

Since 2010, PARC Communications has been involved in seven annual projects for the EU Delegation focused on communication and visibility of the European Union and EU assistance in Moldova. As part of these projects, the agency developed communication concepts and organised large-scale Europe Day events in Chișinău and across the country's regions.

Objective

To develop an annual communication strategy and creative concept for Europe Day celebrations, bringing together public events, cultural activities and information campaigns.

A major challenge was coordinating a wide range of participants – diplomatic missions, EU-funded projects, central and local authorities, civil society organisations and contractors – within tight preparation schedules.

Approach

Each year, PARC Communications developed creative concepts reflecting the European Union's communication theme and issues relevant to Moldova. These concepts shaped the event programmes, visual identity and ways of engaging with visitors.

For example, in 2018, the Human Rights Alley became one of the thematic features of the European Village.

The main event formats included:

  • European Villages – annual public events held in Chișinău and another major city. In 2018, the celebrations expanded to eight cities across Moldova.

  • European Culture Festivals – film screenings and cultural programmes that evolved from cinema-based events into open-air festivals in Chișinău's Central Park.

  • Official events – information events and receptions for members of the diplomatic community, government institutions and EU partners, attracting 500–800 guests.

  • Football tournaments – competitions involving representatives of EU member states and Eastern Partnership countries, organised over four years.

The agency developed creative concepts and communication materials, managed event infrastructure, coordinated participants and partners, organised the events and provided media and communication support.

Results

The annual Europe Day celebrations created opportunities for direct engagement between EU representatives, EU-funded projects and people living in different regions of Moldova.

In 2018, events held in eight cities attracted at least 40,000 visitors. The programme featured around 40 ongoing EU projects, 24 embassies representing EU member states and Eastern Partnership countries, and projects implemented with the involvement of 12 government institutions and ministries.

The long-running format allowed the celebrations to evolve each year, introducing new themes, expanding their geographical reach and engaging additional organisations and audiences.
