Foreign Investors for Moldova’s Sustainable Development

The Foreign Investors Association of the Republic of Moldova (FIA) was founded on 22 September 2003 and became the first non-profit and non-political association of companies with foreign capital active in the Republic of Moldova. Today the Association includes 26 companies from 15 countries - the largest foreign direct investment enterprises in Moldova. PARC Communications PR agency has been working with reputation management and organisation of FIA events since 2005, including regular presentations of the FIA White Book as a credible platform for dialogue between business and the Moldovan authorities.

Task:

Foreign investors have been developing their business in Moldova for several decades. Statistics show a much higher performance of systemic foreign investment in Moldova compared to any other investment. Foreign investors come with established corporate values and an international approach to sustainability, providing not only long-term returns to shareholders but also the development of the communities around them. The member companies of which believe that sustainable development of the country can be achieved only through the improvement of the investment climate in joint co-ordination of efforts of foreign investors and the authorities of the Republic of Moldova.

 

Challenge:

The population of Moldova, stakeholders, including the country’s authorities, still perceive business as a means for its shareholders to generate income. In this context, even company support of various social initiatives is also perceived as a goodwill gesture rather than as a systematic investment in the sustainable development of the company and the communities.

The FIA White Book covers a large number of specific proposals from the business community, but the media and expert community have emphasised the most high-profile ones without covering the full range of work that has been done.

Solution:

  • The Agency developed and implemented a communication campaign aimed at positioning FIA and foreign investors as leaders of sustainable development in Moldova. In October 2022, as part of the communication campaign and international conference, FIA member companies shared their experience in sustainable development and advocated for the consolidation of efforts for Sustainable Development of Moldova. And in 2024, together with UN Moldova was organised a forum ‘Private Sector for Sustainable Development in Moldova.

  • The agency develops creative concepts and regularly updated interactive formats for the White Book presentation, focusing on the sections and priorities of the FIA's activities, prepares the graphic concept, all materials and the White Book publication, organises the event and communication with the press.

  • Every 5 years our agency develops and organises FIA Corporate Jubilee Receptions to highlight the ever-increasing role of FIA in improving the investment climate in the Republic of Moldova.

  • The agency provides advice on the FIA's reputation management and its communication with the press, on social media and at public events. 

Results:

The activities and proposals of foreign investors are actively covered in the national media. FIA's proposals for improving the investment climate in Moldova from the White Book 2021 are accepted by the Government of the Republic of Moldova in an average volume of more than 70-80%. The Association makes full use of its communication capabilities - its speakers are active in the press, while the audience and interaction in social media is constantly growing.
